Breast lift surgery is designed to correct drooping, sagging breasts, which can make a woman feel self-conscious or embarrassed. A breast lift restores the breasts to a more desirable position, and creates a “perkier” and sexier bust line.
Women in San Antonio who are embarrassed by saggy breasts trust Dr. Robert Young for beautiful and natural-looking results. Thanks to his superb surgical skill and compassionate approach, the board certified breast enhancement surgeon has helped hundreds of women feel more confident in their skin with breast lift.
What Does Breast Lift Accomplish?
Breast sag occurs as a result of pregnancy, weight loss, genetics or the natural aging process. A breast lift removes excess breast skin to correct sagging breasts and can restore the breasts to their previous position. Sometimes, the nipple/areola needs to be raised to a higher position on the breast mound and then the excessive skin is removed from the lower breast. This leaves a scar around the areola and down the lower center of the breast and usually in the breast fold. The scarring will usually fade after several months. Dr. Young uses the most precise techniques for minimal scarring and reduced recovery time when performing breast lifts in San Antonio, TX.
Some women want to achieve more fullness than what can be achieved by a breast lift alone. In these cases, Dr. Young may recommend combining breast lift with breast implants to restore perkiness and fullness to the breasts. Dr. Young is happy to discuss whether breast lift with breast implants may be a good option for you. While both procedures can at times be performed together, for some it is more advisable to have the surgeries done separately. The surgeon will discuss all of your options with you during your pre-operative consultation.
Are You a Candidate for Breast Lift?
You may be a candidate for breast lift San Antonio if you:
- Have saggy or deflated breasts due to pregnancy, genetics, weight loss or the natural aging process
- Have breasts and nipples that sit below the natural breast fold
- Have downward pointing nipples
- Are in good overall health
- Don’t smoke
- Have realistic expectations about the results
During your breast lift consultation, Dr. Young will conduct a physical examination of your breasts, paying attention to the quality and elasticity of the breast skin, among other factors. He will also ask you to describe your ideal outcome. You are encouraged to bring in photos of women with the type of results you desire (be sure the women have a similar body type to yours). Dr. Young also recommends you view his before-and-after breast lift gallery to get a good idea of the type of results you can expect.
Procedure Details
Breast lift is performed as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia. During the procedure, Dr. Young will use one of three incision patterns:
- A donut-shaped incision that goes around the areola. This pattern is best suited for women with little breast tissue and minor breast sag.
- A lollipop-shaped incision that goes around the areola and extends vertically down from the bottom of the areola to the breast crease.
- An anchor-shaped incision that goes around the areola, vertically down from the bottom of the areola to the breast crease and horizontally along the breast crease. This incision pattern is usually performed on women with severe breast and nipple sag.
After creating the incision(s), Dr. Young will reshape, tighten and reposition the breast tissue higher on the chest mound. He will remove excess skin and re-drape the remaining skin over the reshaped breast tissue. Oversized nipples and areolas are resized and repositioned higher on the breast mound. Once Dr. Young is done making the desired modifications, he will close the incisions using sutures and place a surgical bra and bandages to support the healing tissues.
What to Expect During Recovery
The initial recovery period for breast lift is one to two weeks, depending on the patient’s personal healing progress. During this time, patients should avoid normal activities (e.g., work, exercise, bending and lifting) and focus on rest. Common side effects include bruising, swelling and soreness. These side effects should subside over time. Follow-up appointments with the surgeon and his staff are important to monitor the patient’s recovery. Resumption of normal activities should depend on the healing process. Dr. Young advises each patient on an individual basis after evaluating their progress.
The final results of breast lift can take several months to a year to become visible. Dr. Young recommends patients practice a healthy lifestyle (i.e., maintain a stable weight, eat a healthy diet, exercise, not smoke) to prolong their perkier breasts for years to come.
